An accidental history lesson for Ella & Cait

Emily and I accidentally took the girls on an hour long tour of the South Jordan museum today. The museum is possibly smaller than my house, so you may be wondering why it would take an hour. At the end, our guide politely asked us if we had any questions and apologized for giving us the "quick version" of the tour. Ella has been there before, and had been begging to come back. Last time she was here, the tour was only 3 minutes long, then she and her friends had and hour of play time. I think she was confused why she had to listen to our tour guide for so long instead of playing, but she and Cait were great sports! I'm glad she was able to learn about the mining process, and how the grocery store clerk long ago used to lean on his cash register as he chatted with local customers so often that he wore all the printing off the machine. She also learned the history of a middleweight boxer named Gene Fullmer (which I proudly told the tour guide was my sister-in-laws dad... although he is not.) So if you're looking for a way to punish your 3 year old, stop by the museum and ask for a tour.

Afterthought:
I do have to say that the museum really is a nice place, and the guide was very friendly. I think he was just bored, and wanted to share everything he knew with us. The girls had fun playing afterwards.

Our new church

We've lived in our house over 6 years, and kept getting moved from church building to church building because of all the growth in our area. Once we drove 15 minutes to get to church in another city. (I know 15 minutes is nothing if you live anywhere other than Utah), but we drove past about 10 LDS church buildings on our way. Last Sunday our new building was finally ready, and it's right across the street from the new temple. (The temple is the Yellow building, obviously it's not finished yet.)

Are there any tankers in Disney Land?

Ella: Mom, one day can we sleep out on the rocks, then someone will steal our tanker and we can wake up late, then we could find our tanker and fall down and everyone would wave at us?

Me: I guess?

Ella: Can we do that in Disneyland?

Me: I don't think they have tankers in Disneyland.

Ella: Why?

Me: What exactly do you think a tanker is anyhow?

Then she drew me a picture of a tanker on her doodle pad.

Most little girls dream of going to Disney Land to see princesses. My little girl dreams of going there to see tankers. I hope she's not too disappointed.

Red Lobster

Tyler's brave parents took all the grandkids (minus the 2 babies) for a sleep over last night. So we ended up going to Red Lobster with two of Tyler's brothers & wives. We haven't been to a dinner where no one has grown food fangs in quite a long time.

Ella: Can I get some water?
Tyler gets out a blue cup.
Ella: No, not that cup! Blue isn't my favorite color anymore. I like pink and purple now.
Tyler holds the cup over the garbage, and sarcastically says:
I guess I can just throw this away then.
Ella: No, I'll like blue again on Thursday.

Design Star

Last week I got a phone call from a guy named Jake Leslie. He wanted to know if he could order a large quantity of Vinyl artwork from me, and get it by Saturday so he could have it for a show that was being filmed on Monday morning (Design Star). I don't have cable so I've never seen the show, but I'm guessing Jake is going to be a contestant for the 3rd season? I definitely want to watch it. The new season airs June 8th on HGTV. If you watch it, look out for my vinyl artwork. And if Jake is a contestant on this show, I hope he wins!

Ewww Dirt

Ha ha April Fools. I hate potatoes! We didn't eat them for dinner. Did I fool you?
This is one of my favorite holidays. I could probably write an entire novel on April Fools Jokes I've played on people throughout my life. One year I actually won a very nice portable DVD player in a radio contest for the best April Fool's prank. (I ended up selling it on Ebay and buying a digital camera with the money.)
I didn't have a lot of time to play many jokes this year since I had to work, teach preschool, then fulfill my church calling at enrichment night. But I still played a few. First, last night while Ella was asleep, I put her in Lily's crib, and Lily in Ella's bed. Ella woke up at 5am, and came into our room very confused. She tapped on my shoulder, and said, "Mom, I woke up and I wasn't in my bed, I was in Lily's crib, and I don't know where I am." So I helped her into bed, where she discovered Lily sleeping, which she found to be absolutely hilarious. Tyler didn't think it was a very funny joke.
As I previously mentioned It was my turn to teach preschool this week. Today I taught the girls about smell, touch, and taste. We tasted all different kinds of foods, salty, spicy, sweet, & etc. I asked them if any of them had ever tasted dirt, and if they thought it would taste good. Then I grabbed a handful of dirt (mashed Oreo cookies) and started eating it. The girls faces were hilarious. I tried to get them to try some, but they wouldn't. Finally after I convinced them it was the yummiest dirt I had ever eaten, everyone (except Ella) decided to try it. Ella still wouldn't try it until I announced it was an April fools joke, and the dirt was actually a mashed up cookie.

On another topic. Tyler thinks I made it sound like he got fired in my previous post. So I just wanted to clear things up. He wasn't fired. He will still do work for Unicad when they need him. There are certain clients Tyler will still be working with, but it may be months before they need his services, and he will be able to help them from our home.

Mashed potatoes for dinner
