Feb. 29, 2012

Yesterday Tyler volunteered to teach 1/2 my art class so that I could run to the hospital to say goodbye to my grandpa. I didn't visit long since I had another class to teach, but I'm glad I got to see him one last time. He passed away not too long after I left.

Most people who knew him would agree that he was the most likeable funny guy around. He was always making us laugh.

He had a lot of energy too. Last year (at age 89) he re-tiled his bathroom floors & fixed the shingles on his roof.

Once, just after Tyler and I got married, we turned on the T.V. The news was on. We immediately recognized my grandpa. He was standing in his yard watering his lawn. A news reporter was interviewing him. The caption near the bottom of the screen said: "John R. Atwood - Water Waster". Tyler and I were laughing so hard watching my grandpa on the news happily watering his lawn with the caption "water waster" below him.

The news anchor was asking my grandpa why he was wasting water during the day. I wish I could remember what my grandpa said, but it was witty, and funny. I do remember the news anchor laughing at his response and commenting that she couldn't argue with his logic.

Goodbye grandpa. We all miss you already!

Playing with Uncle Ryan

Lily: I want to play with Ryan.
Me: He's in Colorado.
Lily: Oh ya. He flew on an airplane. I bet he did something silly on the plane, and I bet they kicked him off.
Me: You think? What do you think he did that was silly enough for him to get kicked off the plane?
Lily: He probably danced so silly.

Musical Houses

I haven't had much time to blog lately. I haven't had much to blog about anyhow, my life is full of art classes, work, and cleaning my house so that Realtors can bring their clients though. I did go to a very fun Pinterest Party last week though. I'll post pictures later.

Next month we will be moving Trisha out of her house and into my mom's house. We will then be moving our family & businesses into Trisha's house. It sounds like Tyler's brother will be moving into his new house that same weekend.
Although I dread next month. I'm glad I can stop trying to make my house look like a model home while simultaneously teaching messy art classes in it.

Little Bear

Lily wanted Tyler to tell me what her new name is. He had her tell me in a video message instead.

Seatbelt

Lily: Mom, I'm going to put on my seat belt because I don't want to be bad. Because, I don't want the bad guys to love me. If I don't put my seat belt on, then all the bad guys will fall in love with me and want to marry me. We don't want that to happen. Right?

Year of the dragon

Happy Chinese New Year! Ella's class celebrated with a parade, party, and many other Chinese New Year traditions.

Did you know that the Chinese people celebrate New Years by cleaning their house on New Years Eve? It's supposed to help get rid of bad luck.

They also give red envelopes full of money to relatives and friends.

I like both of those traditions.

Formerly known as Tiara

Tiara has changed her name again. She now prefers the name Barbie. She assures me that this new name is her last and final name for all the rest of the days.

I can't decide which is more embarrassing;
1) The odd looks I get when I call my unusually (but very cute) dressed daughter Barbie in public.
or
2) When she loudly and repeatedly calls me Barbie-mom in public.

Tiara

If you haven't heard yet, Lily has changed her name. She now goes by Tiara. Tiara is her new name "for all the rest of the days" (her words.)
This is not a name I would have even considered for her. The upside, when I tell Tiara she needs to clean her room or get dressed, or take a bath, she obeys immediately. Whereas when she was Lily, she was not so fast to mind me. I do have to specifically call her Tiara in order to get such a favorable response, but I'm not going to complain about it.

Speaking of names, Ella just informed me that she will be naming her daughter "Dolphatillia" because she loves Dolphins.
