Feb. 29, 2012

Yesterday Tyler volunteered to teach 1/2 my art class so that I could run to the hospital to say goodbye to my grandpa. I didn't visit long since I had another class to teach, but I'm glad I got to see him one last time. He passed away not too long after I left.

Most people who knew him would agree that he was the most likeable funny guy around. He was always making us laugh.

He had a lot of energy too. Last year (at age 89) he re-tiled his bathroom floors & fixed the shingles on his roof.

Once, just after Tyler and I got married, we turned on the T.V. The news was on. We immediately recognized my grandpa. He was standing in his yard watering his lawn. A news reporter was interviewing him. The caption near the bottom of the screen said: "John R. Atwood - Water Waster". Tyler and I were laughing so hard watching my grandpa on the news happily watering his lawn with the caption "water waster" below him.

The news anchor was asking my grandpa why he was wasting water during the day. I wish I could remember what my grandpa said, but it was witty, and funny. I do remember the news anchor laughing at his response and commenting that she couldn't argue with his logic.

Goodbye grandpa. We all miss you already!
